The Lost Mansion: Solo Project -
For my final university project I took an idea from when I was a child and bought it to life.
An exploration based adventure game set in a haunted mansion. The player only learning the story through interacting with the environment and finding the notes scattered throughout.
I planned for the narrative and level, creating the location and story from scratch, adding and changing as i developed, making sure all the little details added to the atmosphere and hinted to the story.
I pushed myself out of my comfort zone for this project, taking on the creation of a variety of mechanics that I previously had never made: Step based quest system, Interactable inventory, turn based fights.
This proved a challenge and pushed my blueprinting skills further than they ever had been, but in the end the prototype reflected well what I was trying to achieve.
Basic Story:
"You get lost trying to take a shortcut on a dirt trail through the woods. With no signal you keep walking down the path hoping to find some help. A large mansion comes into view, you approach and knock on the door, a loud creak echoes through the house in front of you as the door swings open. You hear whispers from inside and feel a pull to enter. You slowly creep into the house, calling out to any inhabitants but get no response. Now you're inside looking for answers to a whole new story. The story of a man who lost his wife and child doing anything possible to bring them back even if it involves the occult, begins luring strangers into his home. Reading his scattered story until you meet the man himself hidden in the attic waiting for the right host to arrive. That host is you."
Western Roundup: UI Designer -
'Crazy Critters duel it out in minigame madness' 4 criminals, trying to aim high, hoping to rest from their criminal life, whoever gets the most amount of gold becomes the legend of Weston, take on various mini-games to earn valuable items, you either become the richest legend or be the low life that you're always are.
Western Roundup is a Mario Party type game set in the wild west.
For this project I was the UI designer, this was a field I had never worked in before, but I wanted to develop my skills in a different area of design so opted for this role.
Echoes of Imagination: Level Designer -
Echoes of Imagination is a isometric turn based puzzle game that requires thoughtful movement and planning. The different puzzles require you to switch between worlds to defeat or avoid enemies and unlock gates.
For this project I was one of the level designers. The video on the left shows my levels being played once fully implemented. I completed many iterations of these puzzles to remove any bugs or mistakes.
The challenge of creating puzzles for the first time was an excellent learning experience and has given me much insight into the iteration required for puzzle based levels.

About Me:
Hi There, My names Hayley: I'm a Staffordshire University games design graduate.
Since I was a child I've always enjoyed playing games and creating stories. When I was in high school I began learning how to code in Python and make simple games (Random number card games and text based adventures). From then I have always wanted to be a Games designer, I would draw out levels for the text based adventure game I was creating, scrawl many stories and code in through every car journey.
When I left high school I began studying Games Design at college, allowing me to finally delve into the the world of game development fully. I followed this path all the way through university, creating games of different genres and learning to blueprint in Unreal Engine.
Being able to finally bring some of my ideas to life, Telling my stories, was exhilarating.
